Naked Clean is a local woman-owned San Diego Maid Service with a “Best Rated” A+ by the Better Business Bureau. Our Probiotic house cleaner redefines the meaning of green cleaning. The benefits of probiotics have been understood for decades for our digestive system and overall health, but recent scientific discoveries show a much broader range of their health benefits. This is because Probiotics clean at the microscopic level by actually reducing germs, allergens and viruses from your home, organically and safely.
We actually learned about toxic house cleaning products the hard way, as one of our family members suffered severe throat problems due to many years of using bleach to clean the shower. It took years to find out that bleach (combined with window cleaners containing ammonia) was at the root of the problem. It truly opened our eyes to the dangers toxic chemicals pose to our health.
Did You Know?
In 1852, San Diego’s first mayor, Joshua Bean, was murdered by unknown assailants who remain unresolved to this day.Mr. Bean’s reputation, however, is clouded in controversy. The day before the mayor was elected to office it was discovered the land where City Hall now stands was purchased by Bean for the grand sum of $2.50 (about $55 in today’s dollars). Later, after a legal fight, the land was returned to the City, but nevertheless, Bean’s character was tarnished. The story goes that Mr. Bean was riding home late one night and two men stopped and dragged him from his horse and forcibly stabbed and shot him. It could be said, the town of San Diego did not want to solve this murder mystery.

How It Began
It all started with a family member taking showers. Once or twice a year he would experience a serious sore throat that would occur literally out-of-the-blue. He would complain that his throat felt very dry and constricted as if he was wearing a tie around his neck that was too tight.
After visiting several doctors they all believed it was likely to be a food allergy, so he kept track of what he ate whenever it occurred hoping to find a connection. But, after a couple of years of this he found no correlation to a specific type of food, so we were puzzled to say the least. Then one day he was home when our maid came over to clean our house as she would regularly do. He walked by the shower and was taken aback by the strong odor. He immediately felt that "feeling" in his throat and asked the maid what that smell was and she said it was bleach. He asked her if she always cleaned the shower using bleach and she said... "Oh yes, I love to use bleach because it cleans so well. See how bright and clean it looks!" she proudly exclaimed.
Soon after we began looking into bleach and learned that it is an extremely dangerous chemical that has somehow made its way into our lives without a thought. We found if you mix bleach with a cleaning product which contains ammonia, you have now created a very deadly poison. In fact, in World War I and II the Germans used various combinations of bleach and ammonia to create rocket fuel and chemical weapons!
Moreover, when bleach is used in a shower the steam can atomize the toxins into very small particulates which then can not only be breathed into our lungs, but can also be absorbed through our skin. If your shower is enclosed with little airflow, as was ours, you are trapping the toxins which enhances the problem.
So this is how it all started for us. We decided it was time to create a new-type of house cleaning service which understands there are MUCH better solutions today. Naked Clean was born from this personal experience, which has made a significant improvement in our lives, and that of our customers.
What Exactly Are Probiotics?
The World Health Organization defines Probiotic as meaning, "for life". "A probiotic is a living beneficial bacteria that when given in adequate amounts, confers a health benefit on its host."
In Nature, there are both good and bad bacteria from a human's perspective. When most of us hear the term bacteria we usually think of a germ - but this couldn't be further from the truth. By far, the larger percentage of bacteria in our bodies are absolutely necessary for our health. Usually, favorable bacteria coexist harmoniously but when harmful microorganisms gain the upper hand, we can become sick.
As in all of Nature, good (probiotic) bacteria and bad are competing to survive. So loosely speaking, if you have SIGNIFICANTLY more probiotic bacteria then bad, you'll have a safer, healthier environment. This is the remarkable balance of Nature.
This is a VERY different concept when applied to house cleaning and may take a while to grasp. All of our lives we have been taught to think in terms of 'killing' germs. So when we use a disinfectant or other toxic cleaner we are essentially killing ALL the bacteria, both good and bad. Now, why in the world we want to kill 90% of the microorganisms which we absolutely need in order to remain healthy?
Today it is fairly common knowledge that we have over-done the toxic killing. Many doctors today are reluctant to prescribe antibiotics because they kill both the good and bad microbes. Maybe you have had personal experience where a doctor will prescribe both an 'anti-biotic' and a 'pro-biotic' simultaneously? Doctors are doing this in order to off-set the killing of all bacteria. Probiotics clean at the microscopic level because there is simply a larger quantity of the good guys preventing germs from over-taking the environment. Technically, it's called "competitive exclusion." Microbes fighting it out for survival.
One last point: our patented probiotic cleaners will keep on working up to 72 hours AFTER we clean your home. This means that your home will continually get cleaner and cleaner as time goes by. Now, how nice is that!
What's So Bad About Toxic Cleaning Products?
For the past 60 years or more, we believed that killing germs with highly toxic cleaners is a good idea. The stronger the better we thought. If you read the label of many cleaners you can easily see how potentially dangerous they can be. You'll often find the words- Danger, Poison and Caution. Does that sound like something you want to have in your home? So why in the world do we use these chemicals when even common-sense tells us it's wrong?
Some medical allergen practitioners today believe that our immune system is over-reacting to this toxic chemical invasion and may actually be the reason we develop allergies, asthma and other illnesses. This applies particularly to young children who are more susceptible and have a less-developed immune system.
It has been suggested that our immune system attempts to counter-attack cleaning chemical invaders, but is unable to recognize them since synthetic toxic substances are a not a natural occurrence. The immune system trys over and over again to attack the toxic-bad guys which creates a rebounding effect and hence an allergic reaction.
Why is the USA, with our 'superior' hygiene experiencing one of the sharpest increases in the rise of allergies and asthma over the past several decades? Why do people who live in rural areas or farms have significantly less allergies?
How Can Probiotics Help With Allergies And Asthma?
Our Probiotic cleaners do not treat symptoms, but literally reduce the quantity of allergens in your home. They go directly to the source of the problem. Allergens such as pet dander, dust mite fecal matter (yes, it's their poop to which people are allergic) and mold spores. These are mainly made up of proteins, which is food for probiotics! They love the stuff.
This is a VERY big difference between most other methods to control allergies. For example, many folks with allergies cover their bedding in plastic to prevent allergens from living in and on the soft warm cloth surface. But this is only masking the problem... it's a Band-Aid approach.
Many of our customers tell us their allergy symptoms are significantly reduced when at home. We have first-hand experience with many of our customers telling us they cannot believe the improvement and how much better they feel.
Think about that for a moment - indoor allergens can now be reduced by changing the way we clean. Amazing!
But There's More...
Biofilm - The germs secret hiding place.
If you're like most of us, you've probably have never heard of biofilm. It's like a microscopic city full of bad stuff. Biofilm is on almost all surfaces which are somewhat wet and warm, including our teeth as plaque. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) believes that 65% of certain types of infections in hospitals are a result of diseases (e.g. H1N1, MRSA, Staph, E.coli), which live and hide in biofilm. But here's the real kicker - Biofilm cannot be removed with any cleaning products including acids. Not even the strongest disinfectant can penetrate its hard crust-like layers. It's an armor-plated home for germs to live.
Our Probiotics are scientifically proven to remove biofilm as this too is their food! The picture you see here is biofilm magnified many times by an electron microscope. You can actually "see" the microorganisms under the biofilm.

When you eliminate the biofilm, germs and especially viruses have no place to live and reproduce, so they die. Viruses 'outside' a biofilm can only survive for a very short time, so removing biofilm is very helpful for a healthy home.
If you or someone you know suffers from indoor allergies, you should give us a call.
Through our own anecdotal experience of cleaning many thousands of homes for years, we have seen improvements in the lives of some of our customers who suffer from indoor allergies.
Some Stats About Harsh Chemical Exposure
Not All Green is Green
You should be aware that not all products in stores that are called "green" are truly green, in our opinion.
There is no real definition of what makes a product green or safe, therefore any manufacturer can instantly call their product green by slapping a label and logo on a bottle.
But here's a simple guide to determine if a cleaner is safe:
This is an important distinction between Naked Clean and someone who claims their products are green, or certified by the EPA. (Remember, the EPA is the same agency who allows manufacturers to sell products like bleach and other toxic cleaners for use in our homes.
Kelly Preston and John Travolta Talk About Toxic Chemicals In Their Hom e

Kelly Preston and her co-star in life — John Travolta— have made some life-changing decisions about what types of cleaning chemicals they'll allow in their home.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston want homes to be safe from dangerous toxins.
USA Today

Preston and Travolta know first-hand about the possibilities of toxic chemicals in the home environment.
"Eight years ago our son got very, very sick with high fever and swollen glands and peeling fingers and rash all over his body," says Preston, who has taken on the role as national spokesperson for Children's Health Environmental Coalition (CHEC). "We thought it was just the flu, and after several rounds of antibiotics and trips to the doctor, she diagnosed him with Kawasaki syndrome."
A relatively rare disease, Kawasaki syndrome is a serious rash illness generally contracted by children.
"At the time, one of the questions on the questionnaire was, 'Have you cleaned your carpet with chemicals recently,'" adds Preston. "We had and so had every other parent in the ward. It was then that we vowed to learn everything we could about our child's environment."
"Because it's not just carpets and cleaning chemicals, it's in the paints you choose, fabrics you choose, particle boards and the materials you use to renovate," says Travolta. "It's in the grass and the chemicals you use on your lawn. And pesticides are big, one of the biggest problems."
"What people don't know is that when they use all these chemicals — the scents, the cleaning products — the air inside your home can be more dangerous than breathing on a freeway," says Preston. "We're taught if it smells fresh it is a healthy environment, and that's not always true. It can be very toxic and affect you on a cellular level. And toxic air especially affects small children with smaller immune systems."
To help make finding safer alternatives easier, CHEC has created a web site to help people learn about all the hidden dangers that might be in the home.
"We've launched a Healthy House on the Internet thanks to the Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. government," says Chuda. "We've been able to put together a wonderful one-stop virtual cyber-shop for parents to peruse at their leisure. You can look at every room in the house and find out what are the typical dangers."
"This is a great time to cut down on the chemicals and know what sort of products you're using," says Preston. "Especially during the holidays, when your house is shut up tight and you want to keep the heat in, you don't want to fill your environment with toxic scents that can affect you and your children adversely, because this is a time for joy and celebrating life."
