Trouble Cleaning Your Gas Stove Top?

House Cleaning Service San Diego

The kitchen is a wonderful place within the home.  Not only is it the hub of activity each evening for your family, but it is also a great place to entertain when guests stop by.  However, stubborn grease and crusted food can build up on the stove, making it an eye sore.  If your stove is embarrassing you, then try these tricks to make it shine again.

House Cleaning Tip #1 - Gas Stove Grates

The first step to cleaning stubborn, built up grime on the grates of your gas stove is to remove them.  Sometimes, merely soaking them and putting a little muscle power into the scrubbing will do the trick.  If that is not enough to get the job done, then try pouring a small amount of ammonia in a large plastic bag.  Place the grates in the bag.  Don’t worry about submerging them.  Most professional San Diego house cleaning services and companies will tell you that ammonia fumes are very effective at removing grime.  Seal, tie or cinch the bag and set it aside while you clean elsewhere.  In half an hour, open the bag (be careful to point the opening away from your face, so you don’t get a big whiff of the fumes), remove the grates and rinse them thoroughly.

House Cleaning Tip #2 - Gas Stove Burners

The burners can build up just as much gunk as the grates, unfortunately, and they are often much more difficult to scrub clean.  Before trying any rougher approach, read through the manufacturer’s care information in the booklet that came with the stove or online.  If you don’t find a solution there, use a bobby pin or straightened paper clip to carefully unclog the small ports around the edge of the burner first.  If any parts of the burner are removable, these can be soaked in hot water and dish soap.  If the components cannot be removed, then you may need to try a very old method of removing grime.  An easy mixture of baking soda and water can create a gentle scrubbing paste that will kick though tough, set in stains.  This can also be used to remove cooked on food around the burner.
